Expert Walking Tour "Forgotten houses of the Old Town" - Private

From USD $75.00
  • Duration: 180 Minutes (approx.)
  • Location: Shanghai
For about 3hours, your guests will follow our story-teller in one of the most authentic section of the Old Town. Far from the crowds and the touristy spots, it is an incredible journey transporting the participants from hidden lanes, where we uncovered architectural gems, to private villas and houses which will open their doors for us along the way.

We start at the Xiao Taoyuan Mosque, built in 1917 and head to the Temple dedicated to Confucius in the heart of the Old Town.  Through hidden streets and local wet markets, we will go to the famous literati Wang Yiting’s former residence. We should be able to visit the oldest mansion in the city (on appointment and if the owner is available to receive us). Then, we will discover a former fabric market, the St Francis Xavier church, some lilongs being destroyed, and the former docks on the Huangpu river. During this walk, we will share about traditional folk religions, Christianity in Shanghai, the literati in China, etc...   At the end of this experience with our Historian, our Photographer, our Story-teller, we will ensure that your guests leave with more anecdotes and knowledge that they never thought Shanghai could contain!
